The Japanese car brand Honda is not yet saying goodbye to Formula 1. The company has registered as an engine supplier for the period from 2026 to 2030, the international motorsport federation FIA reports. It is unknown which team Honda will work with then.
Honda is one of six motorcycle manufacturers to sign up. Renault (Alpine), Audi, Ferrari, Mercedes and Ford (Red Bull) are the other five.
Honda was Red Bull’s engine supplier, but pulled out after the year 2021, in which Max Verstappen won his first world title. Red Bull then set up its own engine factory. Honda remained involved and has also indicated that it will continue to support Red Bull until 2025.
In 2026, new motorcycle regulations will come into force. The power source for the fastest cars in the world will become simpler and cheaper and will run entirely on sustainable fuel. The share of electrical power is also rising sharply. Audi and Ford see this change as a favorable time to return to Formula 1. The German Audi will provide the Sauber (now Alfa Romeo) team with engines, the American Ford announced a partnership with Red Bull on Friday.
It means that Honda still has to look for a team to supply its engines.
