The parody trailer takes us to a post-apocalyptic story in the style of The Last of Us. We learn that the Mushroom Kingdom is destroyed, and only “hope” remains. It is there where Mario will have to take Princess Peach as a flight attendant to Rainbow Road.
To fulfill his mission, the mustachioed man, masterfully interpreted by Pedro Pascal, will have a kart. On his journey, he will meet IP characters like Luigi, Yoshi, Toad and, of course, the fearsome Bowser. In addition, he will face enemies such as Goomba, Piranha Plants, etc.
Without a doubt, the sketch is an overly dramatic reinterpretation of Mario Kart. References to the Nintendo franchise are the order of the day and, at one point in the trailer, Toad sacrifices himself in a scene that is equal parts epic and funny.
Despite the fact that it is a parody, many Internet users indicated that Pedro Pascal does a great job, and even point out that he should have played Mario in Super Mario Bros. The Movie, a film that has just released a new official poster.
