Heracles Almelo has reduced the gap to leader PEC Zwolle to 6 points in the Kitchen Champion Division. The number 2 won after a somewhat lesser period after the winter break at home against Jong FC Utrecht, 6-1.
It was also a stroke of luck for Heracles that FC Eindhoven lost. The number 3, chasing the Almeloërs, saw home club FC Dordrecht win no less than 4-0.
It was the first victory of the calendar year for Heracles Almelo. In recent weeks, the direct competitors in the battle for a top position, PEC Zwolle and Eindhoven, were lost. Before that, the competition had resumed with a draw at Young AZ.
Halfway through, it was already 4-0 in favor of Heracles against Jong FC Utrecht. Nikolai Laursen opened the scoring from a penalty kick. Then Justin Hoogma, Anas Ouahim and Emil Hansson also scored.
After the resumption, FC Utrecht initially reduced the deficit thanks to Mees Rijks. Due to two goals from Lasse Wehmeyer, the home club then ran further.
Thanks to goals from Pepijn Doesburg and Tidjany Touré, FC Dordrecht already led 2-0 against FC Eindhoven halfway through. After the restart, Touré also made it 3-0. Mauro Savastano also scored for the home club in extra time.
The numbers 1 and 2 of the first division are promoted directly to the Eredivisie. PEC Zwolle will be back in action on Monday, in Amsterdam against Jong Ajax.
