The American user DigitalMofo recounted his experience on the Reddit platform: after an afternoon nap he noticed the numerous notifications relating to the heartbeat reported by his Apple Watch. Concerned, he immediately went to the hospital, where he was diagnosed with severe gastrointestinal bleeding which, however, he would never have realized without the help of the device.
The man, weighed down by his lunch, took a nap. But something didn’t go the usual way. And waking up was a nightmare. Still in a daze, he realized that his smartwatch had overwhelmed him with reports. He had recorded a series of worrying accelerations in heart rate during sleep. An alarm not to be underestimated. The rush to the hospital was his salvation: “The doctors told me that if I hadn’t arrived in time I wouldn’t have made it,” he said.
Troubled by the incessant continuation of the warnings, the user said he had stopped working for the rest of the day, then decided to contact his general practitioner. Time to check the parameters relating to oxygen and pulse rate by telephone, and the doctor did not hesitate to call an ambulance. Diagnosis: a severe gastrointestinal hemorrhage of which the man, despite the fact that at that point he had just 3 g / dL of hemoglobin in the blood, was not in the least aware.
“Esophagitis, gastritis and duodenditis, as well as a hiatal hernia – explained the patient on Reddit -. The doctors told me that if I hadn’t arrived there for a transfusion at that moment I would not have made it”. He then added: “Bless the doctors, nurses and blood donors, but if it weren’t for my Apple Watch I would have passed out and died without even realizing it.”
