Goalkeeper Bart Ravensbergen of the Dutch men’s handball team is promoted to the Bundesliga in Germany. The 29-year-old goalkeeper moves from HSG Nordhorn-Lingen, which plays on the second level, to top club Frisch Auf Göppingen. The international has signed with his new club for two years. The contract will start after this season.
Ravensbergen forced his transfer with a strong performance at the last World Cup, in which the Dutch team reached the main round. His new club calculated that he made 63 saves in six international matches at the World Cup. “A good score,” said Göppingen, who also points out that Ravensbergen is currently the best keeper in the second division.
Ravensbergen was pleased with his transfer. “This is the offer I was waiting for,” he says on Handbal Inside. “Göppingen sees me as the new number 1. So I have a good view of many playing minutes. It felt like an opportunity that I had to take.”
