The Mexican singer Natalia Lafourcade, yesterday, asked for “clapping, a song and joy” to celebrate the life of the filmmaker Carlos Saura, who died last Friday.
The Mexican interpreted “Why are you going”, a theme that was part of the film “Cría cuervos” by the director, who received a posthumous honorary Goya last night during the awards ceremony for the best of Spanish cinema.
At the ceremony, words were read that the director dictated to be read when he was awarded an honorary award for his lifetime achievement. His partner for the last 30 years, Eulalia Ramón, was the one who read a letter from the director of “Carmen”, whose health had been deteriorated in recent weeks.
In fact, his daughter Anna revealed that until his last hours of life, the director was preoccupied with working, such as checking a hard drive with material.
“At my 91 years of age, I could not have been more satisfied, thanks to everyone who has remembered me. I have been fortunate shooting more than 50 films, I have crossed the limits that I proposed ”, Eulalia read when receiving the award on behalf of Saura.
“I will be happy if the cinema I have made has added some inspiration to today’s creators. I always said that imagination is faster than the speed of light, I am very sorry not to be savoring with all of you, “the text concluded.
Saura was remembered from the beginning of the ceremony, with his face projected onto the stage and the interpretation of “Cantares” in the main voice of Manuel Carrasco and choirs of actresses such as Maribel Verdú and Clara Lago.
Carmen Maura, who worked under Saura’s orders on the successful “¡Ay, Carmela!”, presented the award to the filmmaker’s family before an audience that gave a standing ovation for nearly two minutes.
