The mosque in Deventer has also confirmed the death of the man. “We are devastated,” a member of the mosque told RTL Nieuws. He says that Furkan’s parents flew to Turkey on Monday to look for him.
The State Department can neither confirm nor deny the man’s death. The death toll in Turkey and Syria has now risen to at least 11,000. For the time being, this is the first Dutch person to die in the disaster.
