TRIESTE, 09 FEB – “Today Italy, Croatia, both President Mattarella and the Croatian president, and our friendly peoples, are well aware of what the sinkholes and the exodus from Dalmatia, from Fiume meant. This is a sign of growth, of renewed friendship between us and Croatia and the peoples who were once enemies”. This was stated by the President of the Senate Ignazio La Russa at the end of a quick visit to the Foiba di Basovizza, a national monument. Responding to the question of whether the honor awarded to the then president of Yugoslavia, Josip Tito from Italy, will be removed, La Russa replied: “It doesn’t depend on me, otherwise I would have already done it” (ANSA).
