A group of former DICE developers led by Dennis Brännvall and Fia Tjernberg founded a new development studio called Wayfinder Games. This reality can count on the investment of Behold Ventures, a company led in turn by former members of the studio author of Battlefield: the former general manager Karl Troedsson and the previous executive producer Sigurlina Ingvarsdottir.
We specify that in reality the creation of Wayfinder Games dates back to 2020, however it is only thanks to an article published in recent days on GamesIndustry that we have come to know of it. The birth of this development studio is due to the awareness that DICE would forever develop first-person shooters, while the founders of reality – great fans of role-playing games and board games – would have liked to try experimenting with other genres.
For this reason Wayfinder Games’ first project will be an RPG since, according to Fia Tjernberg, this genre is fertile ground for innovation. Note that the RPG being worked on will be online with private servers, therefore far from the classic MMORPGs. The developers explicitly cite Minecraft and Valheim as inspirations for this structure.
At the moment the studio is quite small, with just thirty employees, and is unlikely to grow further. As for the video game in development, however, no further details are known for now.
