The recent reports on the possible E3 absence of Sony, Nintendo and Microsoft are confirmed by many sources. According to VGC – VideoGamesChorincles – Nintendo will not be present at E3 2023 since, apparently, it has few games to present to the public.
It is very probable that Sony will also miss the event in question since it has lost interest, as already happened at E3 2019. As for Microsoft, it is still in a negotiation phase for its presence at the event. He probably won’t be on stage but, rather, will start a partnership as a commercial and media presence at the event. Finally, Microsoft will most likely hold an event in conjunction with E3 2023 in line with what has happened in recent years.
These are the statements of the new organizer of E3, ReedPop.
“Since ReedPop took over the contract to run E3 six months ago, we have worked diligently with ESA members, using their feedback to create a new kind of E3 that supports their goals and needs. This process takes time and we are working on finding a balance between doing it right and being inclusive rather than doing it quickly. E3 is a deeply significant event for the gaming industry, and being entrusted with a major cultural landmark is not a responsibility ReedPop takes lightly. We continue to work tirelessly to create a show that brings together the global gaming industry. We believe we have created a new format for the event that meets the needs of both the industry and its fans, and we are committed to building and growing it over the next few years. We have received tremendous interest from many of the largest companies in the industry and when we are ready to announce exhibitors we are confident it will be a lineup that will be well worth the trip to Los Angeles for both the industry and the consumer..”
This is instead the ESA press release that responds to the recent reports on the non-participation of Sony, Nintendo and Microsoft:
“E3 has a rich history in our industry and we are always heartened to feel the passion for the show and hear what it means to different people. Relaunching a trade show after a three-year hiatus and a global pandemic was always going to have its challenges, which is why we conducted extensive research (in consultation with ESA member companies) to identify the best partner to produce the E3 . By selecting ReedPOP as our partner, we were able to tap into their rich history of hosting popular industry events, such as PAX, and broader consumer shows, such as Comic Con. They have made significant progress in reshaping the event and have received tremendous support from industry companies of all sizes who are not only thinking about E3 2023, but also how E3 fits into their marketing plans for 2024 and beyond. It’s important to note that even as the show evolves and adapts, it won’t impact the core of ESA’s work for its member companies. Our priority remains to defend your political interests at the state and federal levels. We will share E3 news and developments as they become available. Thanks for your continued support.”
We remind you that E3 2023 will be held from Tuesday 13 to Friday 16 June.
