Dear Dario, the question you ask is important and, in our opinion, also applies to electric scooters. Let’s leave aside the issue of modifications, because these are serious violations of the highway code, punished with fines that can reach thousands of euros: just think that if you exceed 250 W of power, you “transform” into mopeds, therefore with the obligation of licence, registration, civil liability insurance and helmet.
Today there are numerous policies dedicated to the so-called “soft mobility”, with a decidedly reduced cost (starting from around 40 euros a year), but obviously they are not mandatory.
If e-bike users were forced to insure themselves, what to do with those of muscle bikes? After all, they can cause accidents or investments too. Then, how do you identify the vehicle? Should bikes and scooters be registered and registered?
It goes without saying that something will have to be donegiven that last year the victims on bikes, e-bikes and electric scooters were 229, up by 30% compared to 2020, while accidents and injuries related to scooters alone quadrupled, reaching 2,100 and 1,980 respectively, while the 10 died (source Aci-Istat).
