Every brand has its app these days. With that you might be able to turn on the heating remotely or find your car when you forget where you left it again, and in some cases even make it make fart noises on command to shame passers-by – nice and grown-up, Tesla. The best feature, however, can be found in the ROADS app from Porsche, because it brings the old-fashioned driving pleasure back into your daily drive.
No Porsche needed, but an iPhone
Porsche has given its quirky navigation application a thorough update, and the software gains access to AI — short for ‘Artificial Intelligence’, in case you’ve been living under a rock for the past few months. For once, however, that AI has something useful to do, because the ROADS app can not just determine the fastest or shortest, but above all the best route based on your preferences. In other words, you simply enter your destination and indicate whether you prefer fast sections, winding roads or a combination of the two, and the ROADS app tells you how to drive.
Porsche’s application itself is secretly not new at all: the ROADS app has been around since 2019. Back then, it already included the option to save certain routes and even share them with other users of the platform, and there are already 180,000 of them. The good thing is that it does not even have to concern Porsche owners exclusively, because the ROADS app is also accessible if you are just on the road with any Kia, Suzuki or Peugeot. The only requirement is that your smartphone comes from the Apple stable, because a version for Android devices is not available for the time being.
