ANKARA – The number of victims killed as a result terrible earthquake magnitude 7.8 centered in Turkey, Monday (6/2/2023), increased dramatically. In Turkey, the death toll was recorded at 76 people and 440 others were injured, while in Syria the death toll has reached more than 100 people.
“76 of our citizens lost their lives in Adana, Adiyaman, Malatya, Kahramanmaras, Gaziantep, and 440 citizens were injured in Sanliurfa, Diyarbakir, Adana, Adiyaman, Malatya, Osmaniye, Hatay and Kilis,” said Turkey’s disaster management agency, AFAD.
Meanwhile, Syrian state television reported that more than 100 people were killed and hundreds injured in northern and western Syria in the massive earthquake centered in Turkey.

State television stations called on residents to help shuttle victims to the hospital in their cars.
A health official in Syria’s worst-affected province of Aleppo told Reuters that some residents were still under the rubble and injured people were flocking to hospitals in waves.
Rescue teams scrambled to look for survivors under the rubble of buildings that had collapsed since the earthquake hit Syria at dawn.
AFP’s correspondent in northern Syria said terrified residents ran out of their homes after the ground shook.
The Syrian state news agency, SANA, had reported earlier that the quake was felt from the west coast of Latakia to Damascus.
