Trainer Adrie Poldervaart of De Graafschap is struggling with Guillain-Barré disease. He made this known to ESPN on Friday evening. Poldervaart reported sick on Sunday prior to training. He was then hospitalized to undergo tests. Since then he has also been missing from the matches of the Doetinchem club.
“I feel miserable and powerless. But I want people to know what’s wrong with me, so they don’t think I’m an overwrought trainer who has too few points and is at home,” Poldervaart told ESPN . “I have Guillain-Barré disease with a rare variant. I have a lot of pain and don’t sleep. I hope for the best. I walk very badly, with a cane.”
Guillain-Barré disease is a disease in which the muscles in the arms, legs and trunk can weaken within days or weeks.
