De Graafschap prevented a new stunt from the amateurs of De Treffers in the eighth finals of the KNVB Cup. The first divisionist won 3-0 at home against the team from Groesbeek, which had already eliminated two professional clubs. It is the first time since 2009 that De Graafschap has reached the last eight of the cup tournament.
All goals were scored in the second half. The Turk Basar Önal opened the score shortly after the break and Giovanni Korte made it 2-0 for the home team with a lob within the hour. Substitute Charlison Benschop determined the final score with a header fifteen minutes before the end.
At De Graafschap, trainer Adrie Poldervaart was missing on the bench because he was admitted to hospital with health problems on Monday. Richard Roelofsen replaced him on the bench.
De Treffers, playing in the second division, was 1-0 too strong for Cambuur in the previous round of the cup and surprised RKC Waalwijk (2-0) in the first round.
The draw for the quarterfinals will be made on Saturday evening.
