the swedish manager Ruben Östlund return to his rights with The triangle of sadness, Palme d’Or at Cannes (for the second time) and contender for three Oscars: best film, direction and original screenplay. As a good chronicler, he decides to look at the world of fashion and high places to deconstruct his privileged position in the most scatological way possible.
This is how he mixes social satire, irreverent comedy and liters of vomit into the shaker, but not just any kind: caviar, champagne, seafood soups and other delicacies will be the ones that gush out of the bodies of the stunned millionaires who populate a luxury cruise ship which sinks while the characters are still “in den wolken” (“in the clouds”).

Trailer of The Triangle of Sadness
go ahead than The triangle of sadness It is not a film for all audiences and there will be those who find it even somewhat repetitive in its iconoclastic message because it lasts up to two hours and twenty in the first place, and because, like the recently released Almas en pensa by Inisherin He has such a black sense of humor that it can be excessive.
The film introduces us to a male clothing model and an influencer who make a rather toxic couple. In addition to their usual fights to see who manipulates whom more with respect to money, they are up to a trip that, of course, has not cost them anything.
Thus they embark on a luxury cruise ship in which the captain is always drunk, the crew drinks the winds to please the passengers (and thus get as much money as possible from them) and share the facilities with dung sellers, arms dealers antipersona and a woman who has suffered a stroke and can barely articulate a sentence.
The tables will be reversed when an expected storm for which no one prepares hits the boat in full “captain’s dinner”.
First, the stomachs of the attendees will turn inside out, who will try to soothe their nausea with champagne and then it will be their lives that will take a turn, becoming dependent on the toilet cleaner to survive on the island where they are shipwrecked.

A capitalist Russian and a Marxist American
The triangle of sadness is a game of contrasts: a film in which the important thing is to turn the established order upside down. We see it from the first sequences in which an attractive young man is urged to retread himself with Botox and who, shortly after, realizes the banality of his relationship with his partner, whom he aspires to propose to, even though everything is pure hoax. .
The world of appearances is dissected (the adorable old couple expert in grenades and antipersonnel mines and their outcome is sensational), the dichotomy between capitalism and Marxism and how aphorisms and realities have ended up uniting the opposite poles and how opulence It ends up unbalancing everything.
Good leading performances with Harris Dickinson (Beach Rats) and the unexpectedly deceased South African actress Charlbi Dean (Spud) leading the show, although we cannot fail to point out the sporadic appearance of Woody Harrelson (Three billboards outside) in the role of captain.
As usual in the filmmaker’s films, The idea is not to make us laugh out loud, but to dissect an apathetic society that is increasingly sunk in its hedonism. There are some who enjoy the great privileges of a comfortable economy, but in truth it is what everyone aspires to: to have power… not to change things and generate a fairer system but to use it.
So if we coldly analyze the film, little joke! It is still hilarious to see a golden geyser come out of the mouths of the rich, but it is in the vein of movies like The Menu, flying the flag of the social criticism that does not leave a puppet with a head.
