Inter Europol Competition has engaged Fabio Scherer and Albert Costa to complete the crew of its Oreca LMP2 with which it will compete in the FIA World Endurance Championship in 2023.
The Polish team has obviously confirmed its owner Jakub ‘Kuba’ Śmiechowski at the wheel of the yellow-green 07-Gibson #34 and with him there will be two guys to follow with interest.
Scherer has done well in ELMS and on prototypes in general when he has been called to drive them in the last two years, also winning a couple of races in the WEC, while for Costa it is the first experience after not being renewed in Lamborghini Squadra Corse. where he held the role of GT driver for several years until 2022.
“I’m really excited about the WEC program and it’s great to move up to this series after a season with the team in the ELMS – said Scherer – Last year we made big improvements as a team, even going from the back to the front at Spa Francorchamps” .
“We showed that we have good speed in the car, getting better and better and everyone gave their all together. So it’s great to stay with the team and I think we still have great potential to exploit.”
“It’s exciting and I think we will be competitive, we will fight for the podium this year and make the most of the momentum we gained in 2022. That’s the goal.”

Costa added: “For me this is a fantastic step, racing in the FIA WEC with Inter Europol Competition and on an LMP2 is a dream come true! Ever since I started racing my ambition has always been to ride prototypes, so I can’t wait to get started, to learn as much as possible and to enjoy this chapter of my life. I thank the team for giving me this opportunity and I will do my best to repay the trust they have placed in me!”
Team principal Sascha Fassbender commented: “It’s our third season in the WEC as a team and also for Kuba. We worked a lot over the winter to prepare for 2023 and we have two new riders, Fabio and Albert. We are very happy to have them as a couple and we are delighted for Albert in this new chapter of his prototype career.”
“It’s also nice to continue the work with Fabio, who rode for us in ELMS last year; he will help make our third year in the WEC great, our last in LMP2. We want to get on the podium and win some races!” .
