BEIJING – China vowed revenge by punishing the entity United States of America (USA) after accusing Washington of overreacting to Beijing’s alleged spy balloon.
The balloon flying in American airspace was shot down by an F-22 Raptor stealth fighter jet on February 4. Not only that, Washington then imposed sanctions on 6 Chinese entities.
“The US has abused force, overreacted, escalated the situation, and used this as a pretext to impose illegal sanctions on Chinese companies and institutions,” Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin told reporters at a briefing in Beijing on Wednesday.

“China resolutely opposes this and will take countermeasures against relevant US entities that undermine China’s sovereignty and security in accordance with the law,” Wang continued, as quoted by AP, Thursday (16/2/2023).
Wang did not provide details on what retaliatory measures were planned.
He made his comments after Washington added six Chinese entities allegedly linked to China’s spy balloon program to its export blacklist.
Chinese officials claim that the balloon that crossed North America earlier this month was an unmanned civilian aircraft that ejected off course and accidentally entered US airspace.
A US Air Force F-22 Raptor fighter jet shot down the balloon on February 4 off the coast of South Carolina. Days later, President Joe Biden’s administration claimed the flights were part of a Chinese spy program that targeted more than 40 countries.
