“Argentina, 1985”nominated for an Oscar in the category of best international film, is for the actress Cecilia Roth “an absolutely necessary film at this time”which allows today’s youth to know what the historic trial that condemned the soldiers who led the last dictatorship of the South American country (1976-1983).
“Although many of us know perhaps more things than what is told in the film, I think it’s an absolutely necessary movie right now.so that it is understood why we are living like this too,” said the Argentine interpreter in an interview in Buenos Aires.
And he adds: “When you talk about a dictatorship, what was a dictatorship, right? Because the kids who were born later, in a democracy, perhaps they do not consider what the trial of the boards was”.

Although she is not involved in this film, she finds the impact it is having “wonderful” and is happy for her colleagues. “They are long-time soulmates and I am proud”asserts.
The film, directed by Santiago Miter and starring Ricardo Darín, has accumulated a cascade of awards since its premiere in September 2022, as the Goya for the best Ibero-American film and a Golden Globe, considered the prelude to the Oscars, which will be held on March 12 and in which there is great expectation that it can rise as the best international film.
Asked if she thinks she will take the precious statuetteRoth, star of “All About My Mother” (Pedro Almodóvar, 1999), winner of the Oscar for best foreign film in 2000, is prudent: “Please… Don’t make me say it because I don’t know if it brings good luck…”he remarks between laughs.
“Argentina, 1985” is inspired by the history of prosecutors Julio Strassera (Darín) and Luis Moreno Ocampo (Peter Lanzani)who in 1985 led the accusation in the trial that condemned those most responsible for the bloodiest dictatorship in the country’s history, just two years after the return of democracy.
Precisely a film set in the dictatorship, “Kamchatka” (Marcelo Piñeyro, 2002), is the only one in which Cecilia Roth and Ricardo Darín, two of Argentina’s most renowned actors abroad, have worked together. “With Ricardo I have made a film, ‘Kamchatka’, and nothing else”recalls the interpreter, and concludes: “The truth… I would love to do something with Ricardo again”.
