Suara.com – The two defendants in the Kanjuruhan Tragedy case, Suko Sutrisno and Abdul Haris were charged with 6 years and 8 months in prison in a trial that was held at the Surabaya District Court, East Java on Friday (3/2/2023).
“Sentenced a sentence against the defendant Suko Sutrisno for 6 years and 8 months,” said Public Prosecutor Hari Basuki when reading out the charges.
In addition, the public prosecutor also demanded the same penalty against the defendant Abdul Haris for the incident which resulted in 135 lives being lost.
The public prosecutor stated that the guilt and negligence of the two defendants resulted in the death of another person and because of their negligence the two defendants caused another person to suffer serious injury and another person to suffer injuries.

“So the victim suffered and was prevented from carrying out his livelihood for a certain time,” said the prosecutor.
Hari Basuki said the defendant was charged first with first article 359 KHUP and second with article 360 paragraph 1 of the Criminal Code, and third with article 360 paragraph 2 of the Criminal Code or both with article 103 paragraph (1) jo article 52 of Law Number 11 of 2022 concerning Sports.
“Based on the statements of witnesses, letters, experts, instructions and statements of the accused, all the elements in the first charge (first and second and third) have been fully proven, because during the trial nothing was found that could eliminate criminal responsibility from the accused, the accused should be punished according to his actions,” he said.
The defendant was proven to have violated three articles at the same time as Article 359 of the Criminal Code as referred to in the first indictment, which carries a maximum prison sentence of five years and Article 360 paragraph (1) of the Criminal Code, as referred to in the first and second charges, which carries a maximum prison sentence of five years.
“Then article 360 paragraph (2) of the Criminal Code as referred to in the first and third charges carries a maximum prison sentence of nine months,” he said.

Things that aggravated the two defendants, namely their actions which resulted in 135 people dying, 24 people being seriously injured, and 623 people being injured.
“The defendant’s actions caused deep sorrow for the families of the victims who died. The defendant’s actions caused deep and ongoing trauma for the victims who were injured and the victims’ families. The defendant’s actions created a negative stigma on Indonesian football,” he said.
In response to these charges, the defendant will defend his defense at the trial which will continue on Friday, 10 February 2023.
The Kanjuruhan tragedy occurred on Saturday night, October 1 2022, after the match between host Arema FC and Persebaya Surabaya at the Kanjuruhan Stadium, Malang Regency, which ended with a score of 2-3. (BETWEEN)
