It is an open secret that MG is working on an electric convertible. Next year the brand will celebrate its centenary and that seems the ideal time to pay tribute to the iconic MGA and MGB with a spiritual successor. That successor has already been caught in the wild and is – of course – doing the rounds on the internet.
MG4 as a base
The design of that snapped roadster is actually no surprise. In 2021, MG already pulled the curtain off the Cyberster concept car. The final production model is a slightly better version of that exuberant concept. As is often the case, of course. On the first pictures, a fairly strong-lined two-seater stands out. So don’t expect a car à la Mazda MX-5. This MG “Roadster” seems to be getting just that little bit bigger.
We don’t have an official name yet, technical details may already be. For example, MG previously informed Autofans that this Roadster is based on the brand-new chassis that also serves under the MG4 hatchback. That chassis boasts things like rear-wheel drive, a near 50/50 weight distribution and a battery no taller than a 33cl soda can. If we take a look at the top version of the MG4, we see an electric motor of 204 hp and a battery of 64 kWh (gross). Although MG does not hide that a sporty variant with four-wheel drive is possible. That set-up can of course also find its way to this Roadster. One to look forward to, without a doubt!
