Federica returns to the giant podium 12 years after Garmish: “Now I’m more aware”. Bassino fifth: “I’m leaving happy”
Federica Brignone admits it: “Today I was really excited and I made my weak point my strength – said the world vice-champion after the race -. I was happy to be here and I’m happy that I was able to put all my energies on the track, from start to finish. I really scraped the barrel, but I’m glad I did and achieved this.” A medal that arrived despite not being able to prepare as much as she would have liked, according to her standards of overwork: “I’m an athlete who always wants to work harder. If I don’t work as hard, I’m not happy. This time I managed to accept the situation. I’m I was forced to stop, I accepted it, and I told myself that I would recharge for the race. And so it went and I’m really happy about that”.
For her, the last time on the podium of a world giant was 12 years ago, in Garmisch 2011: “A result that gives me great joy. Today I know perfectly what I’m doing. Back then it was an opportunity to take, a dream Now I realize instantly and today was really good. Last week was good but awful, my body needed a break. I came back with my head focused 100% and it was my strength.”
Martha looks ahead

Some regrets for Marta Bassino, who after a bad first heat recovered eight positions to close the race and her World Championship in fifth place, behind Lara Gut-Behrami: “I knew I threw the race away a bit in the first heat – said the Piedmontese -, I knew I could recover. I’m taking away the skiing, which is good. These are dry races and that’s how it went today. I’m leaving these World Championships happy, even if there is a bit of regret for the giant. For the rest of the season I know I can count on the giant and the super-G. I’ve always started from the giant, but I’ve always done speed and I know that I’m skiing well in both disciplines. Now, three days of rest to then return to Crans-Montana”.
