A new Oscar Awards ceremony will take place on March 12, and one of the most important nominees is the actor Brendan Fraser, who continues to make an impact in movie theaters around the world for his breakout role as “Charlie” in Darren Aronofsky’s new film, “The Whale.”
“Brendan is so amazing in the movie and also probably my favorite human being on the planet. It was amazing to have that experience with him.”
Fraser is nominated in the Best Actor category thanks to his work on the film. For this film, the actor not only played “Charlie”, a character with a very tough story, but also had to use several prosthetics on his body that gave his role a more than realistic touch.
These prosthetics, which together weighed around 200 pounds or 90 kilos, allowed Brendan Fraser to look like a man who was over 300 kilos., and this costume was used during the 45 days of filming. The actor was the first to arrive on the filming set and the last to leave, since the suit had to be handled by many people to put it on and take it off.
TECHNIQUES TO RESIST A 200-POUND SUIT
In addition to being a very heavy prosthetic, it generated heat all the time., so Brendan Fraser had to resort to various techniques or tricks to be able to withstand the long days of filming. Fraser claimed that he had to cover himself in ice to withstand the heat. Also, under all the layers of silicone, which was created from scratch for each day of filming, he carried some kind of coolant to keep him warm.
“We wear a cooling suit similar to the one used by car racers. They have tubes that cross and distribute ice water over the entire body. Getting the temperature right was a challenge“, were the exact words of Brendan Fraser. In addition, the interpreter assured that if you wanted to go to the bathroom, you had to give several minutes notice so that the entire prosthetics team could help him remove the suit.
WILL HE WIN THE OSCAR?
Many critics claim that the actor is starring in a “Brenaissance,” which refers to a renaissance in the actor’s career. Fraser has a good chance of winning the Academy Award for Best Actor, a category he shares with Colin Farrell, Austin Butler, Paul Mescal and Bill Nighy. Just this Sunday, Brendan Fraser was crowned at the SAGs, which augurs a season full of awards for his work.
“Brendan is so amazing in the movie and also probably my favorite human being on the planet. It was amazing to have that experience with him. I learned so much about myself as an actress and was able to explore a side of things I hadn’t explored before.” Sadie Sink said of Fraser.
