In January 2022, the WSJ reported through various sources familiar with Kotick’s plans that they had communicated the expected departure of the controversial CEO.
All this while this issue worsens, reaching a point where some analysts have already dared to comment on whether or not Microsoft will complete the purchase of Activision Blizzard.
Although it has not yet been definitively confirmed if this is the case, from Fox Business it is now stated that Kotick will continue as CEO if the agreement is broken.
The publication claims that according to “sources close to the situation”, Kotick will “absolutely remain with the giant to run the company” should regulators derail the planned acquisition.
Reports said that Kotick remained in the role throughout this transition process, but the company told shareholders in April 2022 that Kotick did not discuss any plans prior to the announcement and had not until then.
“Microsoft and Mr. Kotick have had no post-closing discussions or negotiations regarding employment agreements with Microsoft prior to the approval and execution of the merger agreement and the transactions contemplated therein.
Nor have they maintained them after said approval and execution to date,” the report stated. Of course, the permanence or not of the CEO at Activision it was not part of the negotiations with Microsoft.

Right now, little is known about the point at which Microsoft’s purchase of Activision is, especially because of how Xbox must demonstrate that it is not a monopolistic practice.
