WASHINGTON, 07 FEB – America is “in the economic position to grow better than any other country in the world”: said US President Joe Biden in his speech on the state of the Union before Congress. Biden also asked Congress to pass his proposal for a minimum tax for billionaires and to quadruple the tax on companies for buybacks. “The tax system is not fair, the rich and big companies have to pay their share,” he said. The president then affirmed that the Republicans are holding the American economy “hostage” to the debt ceiling and underlined that welfare must be defended against the Republican’s proposals for cuts, citing social security (pension) and Medicare (assistance healthcare for the over 65s).
