According to the presenter, he has known for several years that something is not quite right with his foot, but he ignores all signs. Because he now has problems with his hip, ankle and other joints, he decides to have it looked at by a podiatrist who specializes in examining and treating feet. “That shortened first ray goes over the big toe of my left foot,” explains Beau. ‘While walking or running, it doesn’t participate well. The rest of my toes do the work. You will find out then, in middle age.’
Because it is genetic, Beau decides to talk to his father about it. “Just like with that weird lump on my foot, and that positivity bordering on naivete,” he shares. ‘He’s frugal too, my father. Unfortunately I didn’t inherit that from him.’
It is fine to live with a shortened first ray, although Beau does have to visit a specialist for arch supports. He has also been advised to buy new shoes and to follow a series of treatments for Latin joints and muscles. Beau: ‘Anything to deny that things are slowly going downhill for me. Slowly and unavoidably.’
