The visit was framed in the Banamex sale process, which up to now has shaped Grupo México, from German Larrea as the only applicant; However, the other interested group, Daniel Becker’s Mifel, has not officially expressed whether it has abandoned the bid to acquire one of the most renowned financial firms in Mexico.
During the meeting with the president López Obrador, Fraser was accompanied by Citi’s general director for Latin America, Ernesto Torres Cantú, who was in charge of Banamex from 2014 to 2019.
It is expected that in these days, Citi will make the announcement of the new owner of Banamex, and so far, the American financial giant has not ruled out that the operation could be carried out through a public offer on the stock market. For his part, López Obrador has insisted on his interest in keeping Banamex in the hands of Mexican businessmenas well as the invaluable cultural heritage that the firm has in the country.
