The attack is said to be aimed at a building in which Iranian military installations are located. The building is located in a densely populated area, which caused several residential complexes to be hit and damaged.
Block of flats hit
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights says an apartment building has been hit and at least 15 people have been killed. A police official spoke of “several deaths and injuries,” and a military source told Reuters news agency that five people were killed.
Israel has been carrying out attacks on Syria for nearly a decade to disable military equipment supplied by Iran. In early January, two people were killed in an Israeli attack on Damascus airport.
Military advisors
The fact that Iran is supplying equipment for the Syrian civil war has never been publicly admitted by Syrian President Bashar al-Assad. This says that Tehran only sends military advisers. But according to Western intelligence sources, militias and paramilitary groups with thousands of members are now active in Syria under Iranian command.
Israel declined to comment on reports of the rocket attack.
