The Argentinian football coach Hector Cuper has been appointed as the national coach of Syria. He will arrive in the country in a few days, the Syrian Football Association announced on social media.
The 67-year-old Cuper has spent most of his coaching career in Europe. Between 1999 and 2001 he coached Valencia in Spain, with whom he lost the final of the Champions League in 2000 (against Real Madrid) and 2001 (against Bayern Munich).
He then started as national coach in Georgia, Egypt and Uzbekistan, among others.
