In its quest to attract gamers and bolster Xbox Game Pass, Microsoft has negotiated to get exclusives from third-party companies. There have been success stories, but not all of them can do well and we have the clearest example in CrossfireX, a game that less than a year after its launch confirmed the closure of its servers.
Through a statement, SmileGate announced that the CrossfireX servers will be shutting down on May 18, 2023. Once this happens, CrossfireX will no longer be available. This means that you will not be able to play its multiplayer mode or its campaign missions.
“We are deeply sorry to have to inform you of our decision to end our service for CrossfireX. Since the game’s release, we’ve worked tirelessly to bring it to a point we can all be proud of, and throughout it all we’ve had the honor and pleasure of supporting our players,” said the CrossFireX team.
SmileGate assured that shutting down the CrossFireX servers was a difficult decision and that it is not something they would like to do. Especially since they had an “active, passionate and enthusiastic” community that they want to thank for being part of the journey.

What will happen to CrossFireX with the news of its closure?
Now, what will be the steps that CrossFireX will take to shut down? To start all sales of the game will stop in the Xbox store. Also, the game will no longer be available on Xbox Game Pass.
On the other hand, SmileGate reported that CrossFireX purchases made in the last 14 days might be eligible for a refund. Those interested can request theirs here.
