Davion Irvin was arrested Thursday. Police suspect him of six counts of animal cruelty and two burglaries. Among other things, Irvin stole two monkeys from the Dallas Zoo and let a leopard escape.
There have been several incidents at the zoo in the past month. Employees discovered on January 13 that leopard Nova was not in her enclosure. A hole had been made in the fence and the enclosure of the monkeys was also damaged. On January 21, an African vulture, Pim, was found dead. According to the zoo’s director, “under suspicious circumstances.”
Recognized in aquarium
Last Monday, the monkeys Bella and Finn disappeared from the zoo. The police then released images of a possible suspect. It turned out to be Davion Irvin.
Irwin could be caught because he had gone to an aquarium. Police don’t think he planned a robbery there. When he asked an employee a question, he recognized him. Bella and Finn were found in his home, 15 miles from the zoo. The police do not yet know why he took the monkeys with him.
