NEW DELHI – A woman at India locked himself with his 10-year-old son in their home for three years for fear of infection Covid-19 . This was disclosed to the local authorities.
The woman, identified as Munmun Manjhi, and her son were rescued by authorities this week after her husband visited the local police station. The mother and son are residents of the city of Gurgaon, close to the Indian capital, New Delhi.
According to Indian media reports, a team consisting of police, health officials and members of the child welfare department arrived at Manjhi’s residence on Tuesday and broke down the main door to save her and her child.
Videos and photos on social media show appalling scenes from the clothes and hair of the two to trash, sewage and food ingredients scattered around the house.

Citing local officials, Indian media reported the woman was in a state of panic due to the pandemic and believed her son would die if she left the house.
“It was very difficult to convince my wife to get herself and my son out because she was afraid they would both catch Covid. Every time he went out, I would accompany him to the nearest market and he would buy several things at once,” said Suran Majhi, the husband, as quoted by the Independent from the Indian Express newspaper, Thursday (23/2/2023).
Indian news channel NDTV reported that the mother used to cut her own and her son’s hair at home and cooking was done over an induction cooker to avoid contact with the outside world.
In addition, the news channel reported that the trash in the house had not been taken out for three years, and the child had not even seen the sun since then.
