The company explained that someone tried to steal information from it through SMS phishing. However, their security teams acted effectively and prevented the damage. Subsequently, they carried out an investigation to find out the scope of the attack.
They concluded that the attacker was unable to access employee data, their game code, or player data. The initial report claimed that the hacker stole information from employees, such as names, addresses, emails, phone numbers, and more.
“The security of our data is paramount and we have comprehensive information security protocols to guarantee its confidentiality. On December 4, 2022, an SMS phishing attempt was quickly addressed by our information security team and quickly resolved. After a thorough investigation, we determined that no sensitive employee data, game codes or player data was accessed,” Activision said.
Insider Gaming claimed to have access to stolen information after the attacker allegedly failed to sell the data. This is how he revealed important details about the future of Call of Duty, such as its next seasons and its next 2 installments.
Activision did not comment on these revelations, simply indicating that there was no impact on the code of its games. As of this writing, the company has not shared any further details of the attack.
