After analyzing the find, the local police confirms to the regional radio station France Bleu that it concerns about eight hundred kilos of cocaine. The drugs were packed in thirty bags.
Drug smuggling to Le Havre
It is not yet clear where the drugs come from and how they ended up on the beach in Normandy.
However, public prosecutor Pierre-Yves Marot says that it is known that drugs are smuggled by sea from the Caribbean Martinique to Le Havre. “A drug discovery in the region is therefore not necessarily surprising, but this is a very large amount,” Marot told France Bleu.
Several residents speak out to the radio station about the find. A local resident says that in his 68 years of living on the coast of the Normandy region, he has ‘never seen this before’.
Police remain vigilant
The mayor of Réville tells the local newspaper La Manche Libre that he has never heard of drugs on the beach of his village. “The sea brings us both the best and the worst,” said the mayor. The police is investigating the case.
Police say they remain vigilant and are monitoring the coast in case more bags arrive on the beach in Réville.
