TEHERAN – Iran’s underground air base nicknamed “Eagle 44” was showcased some time ago.
The exhibition of the secret base was allegedly in response to joint exercises by the United States (US) and Israel.
Quoting the Reuters page, Thursday (9/2/2023), Eagle 44 is an underground air base that is quite large in size when compared to some others. In this case, it could accommodate fighter jets as well.
Here are some facts about Iran’s newly introduced underground airbase.
1. Important Iranian Assets
Eagle 44 is one of the important assets owned by Iran. Previously, the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) news agency said that the place was one of the most important Air Force bases for the country.
Built deep underground, this base is known to be able to accommodate various types of fighter jets equipped with long-range cruise missiles. This will be very useful if Iran is one day attacked by another country.
2. Not Iran’s Only Underground Base
Besides Eagle 44, Iran apparently also has another underground air base. Quoting Forbes, previously they had released official photos and videos from a similar base containing armed drones and ballistic missiles.
Although the exact location is not yet known, in this case Iran seems to be giving a warning to other countries that aim to attack in the future.
