MANILA – There are a number of countries that are prone to natural disasters due to several reasons. Some of them even experience the same natural disaster every year.
Natural disasters are something that no one can avoid. However, natural disasters do not strike everywhere. But only certain areas have conditions that are different from other regions.
Based on Statista data for 2022, here are five countries that are prone to natural disasters.
1. Filipina
The Philippines is a country that is very vulnerable to natural disasters. This was triggered because 60% of the area has the potential for natural disasters such as floods, hurricanes, droughts, earthquakes, tsunamis and landslides.
Since 1990, the country has faced 565 such disasters which killed 70,000 people and caused an estimated USD 23 billion in losses.
2. India
The natural disasters most prone to occur in India are earthquakes, floods, tsunamis, landslides, droughts, hurricanes and avalanches. However, a natural disaster that occurs every year is drought.
Experts predict droughts will increase by more than 30% from 2001 to 2030, but this may vary from year to year.
The increase in extreme temperature events has become a fear faced by the people of India. Moreover, experts also predict this event will increase threefold by 2030.
