Now Roma fans feel betrayed. There is so much disappointment that hovers in the hearts of most of the Giallorossi people, who were burned by Nicolò Zaniolo’s choice to turn his back on the club – and on the city – which welcomed, pampered and defended him like a son. The boy who arrived in the capital by car with his parents in the summer of 2018, soon became the idol of the youngest Roma players and who – before the two knee operations – seemed destined to establish himself as one of the purest talents in Italian football. The double break of the crusader has inevitably slowed down his evolution but, despite the fluctuating performance of the last two seasons, Nicolò has always been able to count on the support of the people and the club. In the collective imagination, in fact, the goal scored in Tirana – decisive for the victory of the Conference League – should have been the first real chapter of Zaniolo’s rebirth in yellow and red. Seven months later, however, everything seems to have changed. Number 22 no longer feels at home and suddenly decided to mutiny. Taking Mourinho, Pinto and most of the fans by surprise. Who, via radio and social networks, seems to have definitively downloaded the attacker.

Zaniolo asked the club to be sold – without however bringing any offers – denying his willingness to leave for the trip to La Spezia together with the rest of the team. A clear tear, which provoked the reaction of the fans. “We defended you. We waited for you. We believed in you, when no one would have. I thought you worthy of wearing our shirt, but I was wrong. And you refuse to leave with the team, for more than deserved boos. Only the shirt. Forza Roma” Gaia vents on Twitter. Words echoed by those of many other Romanists: “Dear Zaniolo, but what have we done to you? Our fault is having given you too much love. Always supported but we Romanists don’t deserve this” is Silvia’s disconsolate tweet. But there are also those who can’t keep calm, heavily attacking the player with epithets of all kinds. And there is no shortage of comparisons with other “bad boys” of the past. Vincenzo publishes a photo of Antonio Cassano in the yellow and red shirt accompanied by the message “find the differences”, others instead bring Balotelli into question: “We are already at the end of a career that is too big for him. He abandons the yellow and red colors to go and be anonymous elsewhere Then, as usual, he’ll come back and ask to play in Italy. The end of Balotelli hasn’t taught him anything. Grow up boy.”

The news of the possible divorce between Zaniolo and Roma has also sparked the reactions of the supporters of the clubs who have approached the yellow and red 22 in the last few hours. The favorite destination of the class of ’99 would seem Tottenham even if several Spurs fans don’t seem to agree with him: “Zaniolo is not and shouldn’t be the player we are looking for.
