The player wants to leave, Roma a definitive sale to buy a replacement. Borussia Dortmund’s interest cooled, West Ham and Leicester tracks open
Yesterday he trained regularly, also because there’s a match on Sunday that he’s passionate about. At his home, in La Spezia, where his family lives and where he initially remained on the bench last year, before entering the second half and earning the decisive penalty in full recovery. For Nicolò Zaniolo, however, it is obvious that these are special days, and not just for the match in question. No, there is much more and that is the possible farewell to Rome, which could take place between now and January 31st. Even if in order to make this happen many pieces have to fit together and it is not certain that in these eleven days the joints will not all succeed perfectly.
From London
—
Zaniolo, as already written yesterday, therefore asked Roma to be sold. It happened immediately after the Coppa Italia match with Genoa last week, in which boos also came from a part of the Stadio Olimpico when he was replaced. And yesterday Fabio Paratici’s Tottenham showed up in Trigoria, who was already talking about the player when he was at Juventus and who also returned to it last summer. The problem, however, is that Spurs’ offer is not even remotely close to Roma’s needs. In London, in fact, they are ready to take Zaniolo on loan, with a possible redemption obligation set, however, under various difficult conditions: including the achievement of the Champions League by Conte’s team and a certain number of appearances as a starter by the player. In short, conditions that make the possible redemption obligation very uncertain, something that Roma cannot afford today. Because he needs to raise cash to look for a replacement and make capital gains, based on the stakes set by UEFA with the settlement agreement. That’s why the sale of Zaniolo will only take place if he takes place on a definitive basis. Or with the certainty of an obligation on conditions that are very easy to implement. Also because, precisely given the need to make capital gains before 30 June, Roma cannot afford the player to go on loan and then return to the capital. Because this would technically take place after June 30 and would prevent Roma from selling Zaniolo before that date. In addition to having an even lower value one year after expiry.
The obstacles and Conte
—
Tottenham would have arrived at an offer of around 20 million with possible bonuses. And therefore the obstacle would be double: the formula, but also the final assessment of the player’s value. Needless to say how Zaniolo, on the other hand, the Spurs solution would be fine, because he knows that with Conte he would continue the growth process he has already undertaken under the protective wing of José Mourinho. Tottenham, on balance, is really the yellow and red player’s preferred solution. But Rome doesn’t give discounts especially to those who put their feet down to leave.
The other suitors
—
In the meantime, interest from Borussia Dortmund seems to have cooled off, while a couple of other Premier League-related sides, West Ham and Leicester, remain standing. But they are two tracks that have a contraindication, given that both the Hammers and the Foxies are in full fight not to relegate. And Nicolò would like everything except to go to a Championship team.
No loan
—
Zaniolo will leave Trigoria only if it is outright. Otherwise he will remain under Mourinho’s orders and a balance will be sought between now and June. Then football is strange, sometimes a couple of goals are enough to give everything back. Rome knows it. But Zaniolo knows it too.
