TEL AVIV, 29 JAN – 24-year-old Omar Tarek al-Saadi died today in a hospital in Jenin (West Bank). He was injured on Thursday during tough clashes between militiamen and army units engaged in an “anti-terrorist operation”. In those fighting, 9 Palestinians were killed, including an elderly woman. According to what was reported by the Palestinian health minister – quoted by Israeli public radio Kan – al-Saadi “was shot in the chest during an armed confrontation with the occupying forces”. The media specify that he was a militant in Islamic Jihad. The battle that took place in Jenin aroused strong emotion among the Palestinians to the point that the Palestinian National Authority (PNA) announced the end of security cooperation with Israel. Furthermore, Islamic Jihad fired several rockets from Gaza towards Israel.
