Water boards: more muskrats caught last year

More muskrats were caught last year compared to 2021. In 2022, 48,447 muskrats ended up in a trap, eight percent more than the year before. This is reported by the Union of Water Boards. The rats are controlled because they cause damage to oeders and dikes. The muskrats do not occur naturally in the Netherlands and the vast majority of rats are caught along the border with Germany.
