PRAYAGRAJ – Government in Uttar Pradesh, India destroy a historic mosque 16th century in Prayagraj with bulldozers.
According to the Prayagraj Public Works Service, the Muslim place of worship called the Shahi Mosque was demolished on January 14 to widen the GT road.
The video of the destruction of the building has gone viral on social media, where social media users have condemned the actions of the local district government and the Uttar Pradesh state government.

The imam of the mosque, Md Babul Hussain, as quoted by Siasat Daily, Tuesday (17/1/2023), said that the case for the building of the place of worship had been filed at the lower court. But the building was demolished before the case was heard in court.
The case went to a lower court after the Allahabad High Court rejected a petition to postpone the demolition proposal in August last year.
“We told the officials that this matter would be brought to the lower courts but the mosque was demolished anyway,” said Hussain.
Former United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) International Water Cooperation chairman Ashok Swain shared a video of the destruction of the Shahi Mosque on his official Twitter account.
According to journalist and anti-Islamophobia activist CJ Werleman, the Hindutva regime demolished the historic mosque under the pretext of widening the road.
According to the 42nd Amendment to the Indian Constitution, India is a secular country. But, nevertheless, the historic mosque was bulldozed by the government.
According to the Muslim Spaces website, the Shahi Mosque was built by the ruler Sher Shah Suri during his reign.
