PURWOKERTO.SUARA.COM, KEBUMEN- The Kebumen Regency Government through the Housing, Settlement Areas and Transportation Services installed two Pelican Crossings in Kebumen City, to be exact in front of the Kauman Mosque, and in front of the Bani Ahmad Mosque, Jalan Kusuma.
Slamet Mustolkhah, Head of the Housing, Settlement and Transportation Service Office, stated that pelican crossings or traffic lights for crossings were installed to make it easier for pedestrians to cross as the one-way road system was implemented.
Pelican crossing is different from zebra crossing.
“For a zebra crossing it’s normal, right, only the lines are not complete. If the pelican crossing is given a light, there is also a button to vote when crossing,” said Slamet when met in front of the Kauman Mosque, Kebumen, Tuesday (10/1 ).

In addition, he said, vehicle users can also know that someone is crossing. He added that pelican crossing is actually nothing new. “Yes, every crossing of people that is equipped with lights and sounds is practically a pelican crossing,” he said.
With the pelican crossing, people can use it when they want to cross by simply pressing the button provided. After that, wait for the green crossing light accompanied by a sound signal. Then pedestrians can cross through the zebra crossing provided.
“Make sure the vehicle stops, and is in a safe condition to cross,” he said.
Slamet realizes that some people, especially motorized vehicle users, still don’t understand the use of pelican crossing, so even though there are signs to stop, some still break through. His party will continue to socialize the use of pelican crossing.
“Indeed, socialization is still needed, because we see many people who do not understand the existence of pelican crossing, already know there is a stop sign (red) still crossing, even though there is this light we want to provide an opportunity for pedestrians so they can cross safely, this socialization is necessary improved,” he explained.
