Two people were injured in a new attack in East Jerusalem on Saturday morning, just hours after one of the worst attacks in years in which seven people were killed. Israeli police said a 13-year-old shot a 47-year-old man and his 22-year-old son near Silwan, a neighborhood populated mainly by Palestinians in East Jerusalem. Both were taken to the Shaare Zedek hospital in Jerusalem and from the first information they would be in serious condition, but not life threatening. The attacker, who lives in Silwan, was arrested.
During the night, the Israeli police arrested at least 42 people following the attack that took place in front of a synagogue in East Jerusalem. Seven people were killed by a 21-year-old man, Alkam Khairi, as they were leaving a synagogue in the Neve Yaakov neighborhood, about ten kilometers north of the city center, inhabited by ultra-Orthodox Israelis. The Israeli police said those arrested, including several of Khairi’s family members, all live in the A-Tur neighborhood in east Jerusalem.
