The Japanese group Toyota remained in 2022 as number one in the automotive sector in sales volume, for the third consecutive year, with 10.5 million vehicles sold (-0.1%), according to data published this Monday.
“Despite the impact of production restrictions caused by the spread of COVID-19, increased demand for semiconductors and other factors, global sales remained at the same level as last year, thanks to increased demand strong Asia-focused company,” Toyota said in a statement.
Toyota recently noted that targets production of between 9.5 and 10.6 million units of its Toyota and Lexus brands in 2023up from nine million last year.
Toyota’s empire also includes the Daihatsu and Hino (buses and trucks) brands.
the german group Volkswagen remained in second place worldwide in 2002with 8.3 million cars sold (-7%), according to figures published in mid-January.
the korean group Hyundai-Kia is in third place, with 6.85 million cars sold (+1.4% for Hyundai, +4.6% for Kia), while the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi alliance lost its place on the podium, with 6.15 million vehicles sold.
The Stellantis (PSA-Fiat-Chrysler) and General Motors groups have not yet released their 2022 global sales figures.
