The accident occurred around 5:20 am on the A16 towards Antwerp, just past the Moerdijk bridge. No road workers were injured in the accident, police said.
A 26-year-old motorist from Ter Aar crashed into the back of the car of a 42-year-old man from Rotterdam. An 18-year-old woman from Utrecht was also in the car with the woman from Ter Aar.
In the guardrail
The car of the woman from Ter Aar hit the arrow car, which was standing there because of the closure of the A17, while spinning. The police suspect that the woman from Ter Aar was under the influence of alcohol.
Both cars eventually ended up in the guardrail. The three occupants of the vehicles were taken to a hospital. The police spokesperson could not say how they are doing.
