JAKARTA – The British government will send 600 Brimstone missiles to Ukraine. This was done to help Ukraine against Russian troops. It is known that the Brimstone missile was designed by GEC Marconi in 1996. Then it began to be produced by MBDA UK based in Henlow, since 1999. Here is the sophistication of the British Brimstone missile for Ukraine.
1. Can be Launched from Ground or Air
Brimstone missiles can be launched from the ground or from the air. Ground-launched missile firing has been successfully carried out at Yuma Proving Grounds, Arizona, United States (US). The missile can be fired from ground launches, either stationary or mobile, and can be mounted on reconnaissance vehicles. Meanwhile, when launched from the air, the missile can meet and exceed long-range anti-armor weapons.
2. Able to Hunt down Russian Tanks
This Brimstone missile is capable of hunting down Russian tanks. In addition, it can also choose the target itself. Britain’s Brimstone missile was delivered to Ukraine on November 21, 2022. The missile helped halt attempts by Russian forces to advance.
3. Equipped with a Millimeter Wave Radar Finder
The Brimstone missile is equipped with a millimeter-wave radar seeker operating at 94GHz. This gives it the ability to operate in all weather conditions, day and night. Millimeter radar can dampen faster than conventional centimeter radar in rain or fog conditions. In addition, it also has a high penetration than the infrared sensor system when used.
4. Equipped with Digital Autopilot
The Brimstone missile is equipped with a digital autopilot. This digital autopilot is able to provide guidance in the middle of the road and uses a high-accuracy digital inertial measurement system. In addition, the advanced guidance system on the control unit uses the target coordinates, speed, trajectory data of the missile to control and produce an optimal path to the target.
5. Can Be Fired In Salvo
Brimstone missiles can be fired in salvo. It is known, missiles can exit from one platform and spread to cover a large area. These missiles can be flown down the same corridor to attack formations. Algorithms on the computer reduce the possibility of more than one missile hitting the same target.
