SURREY – A British girl won a lawsuit for USD 48.3 million (more than IDR 719.3 billion) after doctors amputate all his limbs. The girl was amputated after being allowed out of the hospital (RS) by a doctor who mishandled her.
Lawyers for the girl – who have not been named – said her parents brought her to Frimley Park Hospital in Surrey, south-east England, with a high fever, drowsiness and vomiting.
Quoting a report from the BBC, Tuesday (24/1/2023), such symptoms are a “red flag” for meningitis and sepsis. However, the doctor actually sent him home by giving him paracetamol or acetaminophen.
Her parents returned to the hospital when the girl’s condition worsened, and doctors diagnosed her with meningococcal sepsis (neisseria menigitidis). He then suffered multi-organ failure.

The severity of his sepsis later caused him to require four leg amputations. This was revealed by Elizabeth-Anne Gumbel KC, who represented the family.
The girl had both legs amputated above the knee, and her arm was amputated above the elbow.
His family argued that if doctors treated him immediately with antibiotics, he would not be very ill and might still be able to retain his limbs.
The hospital admitted responsibility during a hearing at the High Court in London on Friday last week.
Gumbel described the girl as “very brave” and said she managed the school very well academically.
