4A Games has released a new post on the official site to provide us not only with an update on projects in progress, but also with a general snapshot of the state of the studio.
Naturally the article opens with an insight into the life of developers during the conflict in Ukrainea: we are reiterated that part of the team has moved to the island of Malta, but many employees are still in their homeland and work as best they can from home or directly from the headquarters in the capital, Kyiv. Some of them enlisted to defend the country from the Russian invader: some were injured while others, unfortunately, lost their lives. We are told that 4A Games is helping the team in Ukraine as much as possibleproviding economic and logistical assistance.
As far as projects the company is working on, one of them is a new chapter in the Metro sagawhich will be strongly influenced by the war that is taking place in Ukraine.
“The next video game in the Metro series is changing for the better. And not just because of the circumstances we find ourselves living in,” the post reads. “We have never hidden that the Metro saga carries with it a strong political and anti-war message. It’s true, we’ve always wanted to entertain you and immerse you in our post-apocalyptic world, but there has always been a story behind it all. The war in Ukraine made us stop and think about what kind of story we want to tell in the next Metro. All Metro themes – conflict, power, politics, tyranny, repression – are now part of our daily lives. That’s why we decided to weave them into the game with renewed determination.”
Development on the upcoming Metro, as you can easily guess, is moving forward at an erratic pace and unpredictable due to the conditions in which the 4A Games staff find themselves working, for this reason the studio does not want to go too far by spreading further details, also explaining that the game will be published only when it is actually ready.
In the meantime, however, 4A Games has decided to publish the Exodus SDK for free, a complete editor that will allow anyone interested to develop mods and add-ons for Metro Exodus. To use it, you must own a copy of the base game or the Enhanced Edition on PC.
