The Last of Us has already been released on HBO Max, a series that adapts a spectacular video game where humanity faces an apocalypse.
The Serie The Last of Us will show us a world devastated due to a pandemic caused by the cordyceps fungus, which is spread by breathing in the spores or through a bite. Therefore, the infected become cannibalistic monsters and humans have to avoid them by any means. But the most terrifying of all is that this fungus actually exists and can manage to manipulate insects so that they change their behavior and thus expand their spores before dying.
In an interview with THR, the showrunner of The Last of Us, Craig Mazinrevealed that this Apocalypse could come true.
“It’s real, it’s real to the extent that whatever it says mushrooms do, they do. And now they do and have been doing it forever. There are some notable documentaries that you can watch that are pretty scary. Now your warning, what if they evolve and get into us? From a purely scientific point of view, would they do to us exactly what they do to ants? I don’t believe it. I doubt it. On the other hand, you’re right: LSD and psilocybin come from mushrooms. What I said to John Hannah who plays Dr. Neuman was: What we’re doing in this scene from The Last of Us, it’s telling people that this has always been here.”
Craig Mazin compared the idea to the Chernoybl nuclear disaster and called it a time bomb.
“What was so chilling to me was that the Chernobyl nuclear plant blew up that night, but it could have blew up a week earlier or it could have blew up a month earlier. Which means that right now, there’s something waiting to explode, you just don’t know it. It was very upsetting to tell people: We knew about this, it’s been there, now we’re going to show the night it finally happens. Not suddenly, but finally.” Craig Mazin concluded.
The Serie The Last of Us is now available on the streaming platform HBO Max.
