The future of Halo as we knew it hangs in the balance after the Halo Infinite disaster. Xbox and 343 Industries have applied important changes and a recent report ensures that a 180 ° turn is taking place in the studio and in the franchise; part of that includes his campaign and the continuity of his story not moving forward any further.

Will Halo become a game as a service?
Today, a report by Jason Schreier, a Bloomberg journalist, revealed some off-the-record information pointing to major modifications to the 343i. Accordingly, the franchise will be rebuilt from the ground up and after a decade of disputes, it was decided to bet on Epic Games’ Unreal Engine. At the same time, the near future of Halo would be in online multiplayer with the rumored Tatanka that started as a Battle Royale but would have evolved into a game on its own.
One of 343’s biggest core problems over the last few years has been a heavy reliance on contractors, who can only stay a maximum of 18 months. During this mass layoff, full-time employees got severance packages. Contractors got a few days to pack up and leave

However, the detail is that there are no plans at this time for a Halo Infinite single player game or at least a campaign mode is contemplated in the video games that would be considered in this reboot, at least not by 343i as the report suggests. In this regard, it is pointed out that the story DLC plans for Halo Infinite came to nothing and even worse that content ideas of this type for new deliveries were from workers who were fired from 343i.

It should be noted that Joseph Staten, the creator of the IP in the days of Bungie, returned to deal with the Halo Infinite disaster and although he worked on the campaign it came to nothing. Staten is currently leaving his role at 343i and is said to be taking a position at Xbox Game Studios.
Unfortunately, the outlook does not look good for those who knew Halo for its history and campaigns (although multiplayer was just as important) since everything indicates that the goal of 343i and Xbox is to turn the franchise into a proposal focused on online multiplayer. and probably in a game as a service. Perhaps, as independent analyst Benji-Sales points out, it’s possible for other studios to pick up story-focused single-player games.
Given it sounds like 343 focus for Halo is all-in currently on multiplayer I do wonder if Microsoft / Xbox would allow another studio to make a single-player game if they were approached
There are millions of single-player Halo fans. Even if it’s a spin off hope we see something
